select configuration_key as cfgKey, configuration_value as cfgValue from configuration

What does it means ?? and where I find it ?

fryta, this message doesn't mean anything to us unless you can tell us what you were doing when you got it.
 
fresh downloaded copy of phpmyadmin gives no error

check whether your mysql deamon is running

/etc/init.d/mysqld restart
 
i just wanted to say that it is good to be able to find the answer to my question on a site like this. i had a 1046 error on selecting the database and realized the problem after seeing the answer here. awesome. :-D
