HELP! recompiled PHP

HEllo!

we recompiled PHP to enable ftp. But after recompiling and restarting apache, the phpinfo() still shows the old configuration. What could we have forgotten to do? Help!
btw, FTP functions still don't work/exist

check and clear proxy or see config files

Do:

/make clean
rm -rf config.cache

before re-compiling
