Help with info. about different database technologies

Hi there!

I am doing a project on what different databse technologies are available for use in online business applications, their dis/advatages.

I need to cover aspects such as different databses, e.g.Temporal, relational, active etc.

Does any have any advice on where to start on this massive subject? Maybe reccomendations for website or reading material???

All help will be greatly appreciated.

I think you first start with SQL. As no matter what is the database, all use SQL standard.

what is SQL?
When it come into existance?
Why it was given preference over file system?
and so on......
