SAFARI Montage, a leading U.S. K-12 Ed-Tech company, has an immediate opening for a System Architect / Cloud Solution Developer with exceptionally strong technical design skills, high motivation, and ready to define and deliver the most progressive digital learning tools of the day.

SAFARI Montage provides 12,000 U.S. schools with fully integrated Digital Learning Environment tools, including the most refined K-12 Learning Object Repository and digital learning tools; a Video Streaming Library from leading broadcasters such as PBS, ABC/Disney Education (Bill Nye: The Science Guy), BBC, Nat Geo, Schlessinger Media, The History Channel, and Bio; plus IPTV and Live Media Streaming software and hardware solutions designed to handle video efficiently. The software is presently deployed on premises on appliances inside school district WANs in their data centers. SAFARI Montage enjoys a number IMS Global interoperability standards certifications and awards, working with virtually all classroom technology, mobile devices and district systems. The full suite of integrated modules provides a single interface for users to access and manage the full spectrum of digital curriculum resources licensed or created or free from within the school district network or from home.

As the System Architect/Cloud Solution Developer, you will be responsible for leading SAFARI Montage system architecture and design, cloud solutions delivery, and contribute fully to core product development. This exciting opportunity will afford you the ability to advance your skills by working with a team of talented senior development staff and a wide range of technologies to deliver a dynamic range of industry-leading digital curriculum and video delivery products specifically targeting K-12 educational market needs.

This position reports to the CIO. This position can be based in West Conshohocken, PA or Kalamazoo, MI.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Work with CIO and key stakeholders to identify, analyze and provide detailed solution designs for all new requirements;
• Lead design, development and delivery of the SAFARI Montage software and hybrid cloud architecture in conjunction with development staff;
• Define cloud vs. on premise application workloads, identify appropriate cloud services and platform configurations, and develop communication mechanisms between cloud-hosted applications and on premise caching and application-specific appliances;
• Design and manage machine images for all required application services;
• Design and build provisioning, upgrade, and automation tools to deploy, scale, and monitor production cloud and on premise environments;
• Design and support migration processes from on premise SAFARI Montage installations to AWS cloud platform;
• Design and develop other assigned product development projects;
• Create architecture and design documentation as required to support development team;
• Work closely with QA to support new product releases;
• Provide high-level planning and support of critical customer issues as required;
• Direct day-to-day activities to complete all assigned projects and communicate status; and,
• All other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, MS in Computer Science a plus;
• Demonstrated success designing and deploying distributed, high availability, clustered solutions via cloud services and cross-platform APIs, preferably via Amazon Web Services;
• Exceptional development skills with emphasis on web application design & development technologies (HTML, PHP, JavaScript, XML, JSON, CSS, and similar);
• Experience integrating third party systems via well-defined published and proprietary standards (SAML, LDAP, IMS Global standards);
• Strong database design and development skills;
• Strong working knowledge of networking concepts, including routing, firewalls, load balancing, proxy services;
• Strong working knowledge of FreeBSD (or Linux), shell scripting, and configuration of web and application platform services (Apache, PostgreSQL, PHP, NFS, ZFS, and similar);
• Working knowledge of VOD and live streaming standards;
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly absorb new technologies and achieve stretch goals in an innovative, fast-paced environment;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in dynamic team environment; and,
• Strong communications skills.

Preferred Experience:

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering and development experience;
• 3+ years of architecting, developing, and delivering high-availability cloud-based solutions, AWS Architect certification;
• 5+ years of experience developing on FreeBSD (or Linux) platforms using open source technologies (Apache, PostgreSQL, PHP, etc.);
• Experience migrating existing solutions to cloud platforms;
• Experience with video on demand / streaming media technologies; and,
• K-12 Ed-Tech product development experience.
