php 4.3 GD library doing bad things

and read carefully:
GD library is now bundled with the distribution and it is recommended to always use the bundled version
 
The bundled release also has some additional functions such as ImageRotate which Rasmus himself (all praise) apparently worked on. Thomas Boutel also speaks highly of the bundled package.
