Hey!
Lets start with a poll to judge what else other than MySQL is used with PHP...

I work heavily with MSSQL at my office

You forgot the very important nr1 engine in the world... Oracle...

I will vote for it if you will add it to your pole (i may do it myself but you may be disagree on something)

Whats the point of so many different databases? Aren't they all just databases?

hmm.. i was wondering.. if I was missing anything... :)
please do add the option to the poll, I don't think I can change it.

Virtuoso: noup..they are not the same..

First of all: different databases have different speed of processing queries, different databases have also different security level.

there are many many many differences..

for instance: what database engines would you use for:
*. Webshop
*. Banking system
*. Project management

okej... now reply there... i think no one knows what to say :p

Here are the correct answers:
Webshop (in most cases) and Project management systems would be using MySQL (other database engines are also possible to use)
Banking system: Oracle and ONLY oracle
