Yes..its possible, in fact im making my second one right now 
its pretty simple but beginners cant do that as it will require a system to be secure, fast and have all the functions of the simmilar webshops..
so i will suggest you to learn PHP so you will have an intermediate level of exprerience... then try something like an web-based shopping system..
