hello,
I have just installed apache 1.3.28/mysql 4.0.15a/php 4.3.3 in Mandrake linux 9.1 using the source files. Although Apache and php seem to work fine I have problems starting mysql. Whatever I try ( mysqld_safe, mysqld ) I get the message:
unable to connect to MYSQL through socket /tmp/mysql.sock
Why is this happening? What should I do?
Below is how I configured the source of mysql:
$CXXFLAGS="-O3 -felide-constructors -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" \
CFLAGS="-O3" CC=gcc CXX=gcc ./configure --prefix=/usr \
--localstatedir=/var/lib/mysql \
--without-bench \
--without-debug \
--with-mysqld-user=mysql \
--enable-assembler \
--enable-thread-safe-client \
--with-client-ldflags=-all-static
