What does this tag mean?

I have come across many websites and I've seen a tag, but I don't know exactly what it is used for, may be rss feed or anything else. I don't know for sure.

Could someone help explain to me the way it works and how to use it? And also the url of this tutorial if any.
And sorry if I post in the wrong place, but I don't know where to post it.

its a link tag for the RSS feed, as many browsers have support for detecting such feeds. For instance in Firefox i see the icon showing that the feed is present

well.. devshed.com has some tutorials about how to build an rss feed, otherwise its just a matter of "googling" for it..
Search for something like: "building RSS feed with PHP"

There are hundereds of them
