I have been using netbeans 8. Should I switch to Notepad++ ? The book i am working off of suggested a full blown IDE over just an editor, but frankly i am finding it cumbersome.

Hi

I'll recommend "Brackets" best editor I've ever seen.
it will come with a lot of themes and function suggestions when we typing here.
As we all know Php has a lot of prebuild function and we can't remember all of them so this editor will help us.

If you need any more suggestions for building PHP sites you can reach us here http://www.softscripts.net/

I've always used basic text editors with syntax highlighting for php.

Gedit (Linux)
Notepad++ (Windows)

I've never used any IDEs for php for some reason...

Editing HTML and CSS code can be done without any specific tools. In fact, if you have a simple text editor, you are good to go. However, just because you can do something doesn’t mean it is the best way to do it – and that applies to web developer https://w3codemasters.in/best-text-edit ... ners-2019/ as well.

Here Are the List Of Best Text Editor for php

Visual Studio Code
Sublime Text 3
Atom By Github
Brackets

I have tried various IDE over the years, but always fall back to netbeans (I'm on version 11.2). It's a nice FREE (other than JAVA if you want to do commercial work) IDE. Though my only complaints is that is a little bit of a memory hog and it doesn't seem as robust as the other IDEs out there. However, I have been losing it for years now and it is like a glove as I hardly notice I using it.

I use Visual Code for the editor, and we can also use Sublime, both are Good.
if we are doing coding for Mobile app Development Services than we should use Visual Code.
For Website Development we can use Sublime text.

Even though PhpStorm isn't Free, I switched over to it and after a bit of a learning curve that IDE really has help my coding. It gives you suggestions for the most part on how to make your code better and more streamline. Less banging your head against the wall and actually getting things done. I also like how it integrates to your remote website(s) and to GitHub. I chucked Netbeans about a year ago and haven't looked back.
