Hello,
on my country Italy ..
most used should be still modem/dialup .
1 Hour dialup costs about 0.80 € (1$ is about 1 €).
However in the last 2 years ADSL and fiber-octis connections are growing fast ; especially on big Italian cities they are near to surpass the number of dialup connections.
ADSL flat (h24 connection) costs about 30~40 €/month and it offers 256 Kb/s
ADSL speed reachs also 2000 Kb/s but it costs more (around 60~80 €/month) .
In some very big cities (Rome , Milan) there are also fiber octics connections available , offering connections at 10Mb/sec , but it's expensive (over 100€ month) .
In Italy are available also gprs Internet connections via cell phone . It's enough a cell phone with gprs , or a notebook with a gprs PCMCIA card .You can have a 56 kb/s mobile gprs connection for 10 €/month , with unlimited traffic . Gprs signal is enough good , in most places of Italy (consider that gprs was introduced in italy 3 years ago) .
On January 2003 was introduced in Italy also the UMTS technology (internet connection via cell phone with large band), but the costs are still expensive for now.
There is also internet via sat ,but it's not very used , since expensive too.
Most 3 active internet providers in Italy are
http://www.tin.it (adsl, dial up, Sat Internet)
http://www.tiscali.it (adsl , dial up , Sat Internet)
http://www.infostrada.it (adsl, dial up)
Most 3 active gprs providers in Italy are
http://www.tim.it
http://www.vodafone.it
http://www.wind.it
Umts provider in Italy is (only 1 provider)
http://www.tre.it
Internet Fiber octic (only 1 provider)

And , on YOUR country which is the situation ?
